Plastics Part Designer
A Plastics Part Designer is responsible for the design of plastics parts and mechanisms.
 
Job Description

A plastics parts designer works closely with both mould designers and product
development. They need to be skilled at interpreting ideas and solving problems. This ensures that the mould designer and maker are co-ordinated and products suit customer needs.

Daily Activities


  • use computer-design program
  • consult manuals for material properties
  • coordinate with mould designer and maker
  • prepare drawings, models and production instructions
  • create or update designs
  • make budget estimates

Additional Requirements
  • knowledge of industrial design principle
  • knowledge and awareness of the various properties and abilities of plastics
  • awareness of plastics materials properties and specifications
  • insight related to mould/design and parts
  • ability to incorporate the unique design criteria for plastics
  • ability to work with product development to make products to suit customer needs
  • ability to do cost estimates and calculations
  • ability to provide technical support or service to customers to help use products effectively and safely
